Ganka was founded during the dawn of the Meiji era (1868-1912). As the current Ganka Takagi, I took on this name in 2016 as its sixth generation craftsman after studying the art of Ryukyuan pottery in Yomitan, Okinawa. In addition to traditional painting techniques like gosu and aka-e, I employ iron underglaze, gold, and more to create pieces with newer styles. While my work focuses on tableware for Japanese cuisine, I make a great variety of pieces, from tea utensils to vases.
